Today I have given myself the daunting task of updating the photo album. I used to do a good job of keeping albums up-to-date ... until blogging came along! Ever since then it's been sadly neglected along with the gardening and the housework! So today is the day when I relive all those happy, summer memories and pop holiday snaps, party shots and family photos into the 2012 album so that they be enjoyed (and laughed at) in years to come!

A perfect ensemble for a visit and swim at the 'The Blue Grotto'
I have been lucky enough to visit the famous Blue Grotto on the Isle of Capri. They have these expensive little boat tours where you can hire a boat and a guide and row through the caves. It really is spectacular but I have heard of equally beautiful places in Malta and Turkey where the water is an iridescent shade of turquoise, the sand is pristine and they are no tours, no hordes of tourists and and no fees - just unspoilt beauty and warm water begging for a dip!

Here's a little taste of the beach girl style I was surrounded by on my recent trip to Sydney - so many fit, healthy, pretty young girls with big smiles and heaps of style. Bondi has a reputation for bronzed aussies on the beach and everything I'd ever read appeared to be true. But to be fair, I did hear a lot of foreign accents so they were plenty of Americans, Europeans and English adding to the cultural mix. Gorgeous girls and guys were out in force jogging, brunching, suntanning, surfing, dining or just hanging out with friends. The place had a great 'beachy vibe' and I was having a lovely time enjoying all the great casual beach fashion.

On my bucket list is a trip to the Caribbean. I love any tropical destination but high on the list are the Islands of the Caribbean. Apart from the obvious wow factors of the beaches and the scenic beauty I am fascinated by the local architecture and the colours associated with this exotic destination. I love the distinctive style of the houses and the tropical colour palette of the interiors. I'm huge fan of cane, rattan and sisal and these natural fibres play such an important role in their decorating schemes. One day, I would love to explore this part of the world and experience it for myself!

I love the weathered greys that come with beachside living. I use a lot of spotted gum and recycled timber cladding in the coastal homes I design. I always specify that they are just oiled and left to grey off naturally with the wind and salt air. This way they subtlely blend into the landscape and their coastal environment. One of my favourite things about Hampton's style architecture is the weathered grey shingles - they lend so much charm and character to the houses they adorn.

It’s this (healthy stuff)...
verses this(junk food)yum!
I have a confession to make ...I love junk food ... anything fried, battered and loaded with calories. If I could, I would live on hamburgers, fish and chips, nachos and take-away food but alas I'm a sensible girl and I know what's good for me. I like to keep fit, stay in shape and eat a healthy balanced diet... but that doesn't change the fact that I still love junk food! Every time I order the chicken Caesar salad in a restaurant I really wish I was ordering the supreme pizza but I know what makes me feel good at the end of the day. You know the old saying 'a moment on the lips and lifetime on the hips'! But on special occasions and everyone once in a while I indulge in fish and chips on the beach or KFC at the end of a hard day's skiing. It's all about balance!

There's lots of new things going on here at Coastal Style. Not only have I set up some Pinterest boards but I have taken the leap and set up a Coastal Style Tumblr blog. It will have a fresh feel and different images to the Pinterest boards - lots of inspiring coastal places, beach fashion, trends, tropical living, gorgeous beach houses and beautiful beach scenes. Pop over and see what you think. I have also set up a direct link button under 'Follow Along' in my side bar.
Hope you like it!

This weekend promises to be a lovely, relaxing one with time out to catch our breath. My husband is itching to get in the water and have a decent surf, I'm looking forward to some quiet time and reading my new magazine 'Coastal Style' in the sunshine on the deck. At some stage we'll all head down to the beach for a long walk and I've promised the kids we'll hire some canoes and go for a paddle down the river. All in all, it sounds like a perfect weekend to me!
Have a great weekend!
