Black and white beachside accessories:

For me black and white is not an obvious choice for beachside living but that theory has now just been thrown out the window when I see these examples of stylish outdoor furniture and chic beach accessories. It is a sophisticated and timeless palette that can definitely have a 'beachy' vibe to it!

Ocean Blues

Tan & Sapphire

How dynamic does a space look when you add accents in rich sapphire and deep turquoise. They suddenly come alive with depth and possess a jewel-like quality. They evoke the colours of a sparkling ocean on a hot, summer's day. It's doesn't take a lot - a rug, a cushion, a painting or a chair but it totally adds a whole new dimension to a room.

White with Natural Textures

I love the combination of white, wood and natural textures - particularly for a beach house although they would work equally well in a country style cottage. I love rustic timbers in their natural state but I'm also a fan of timber that's painted white, chalked or limewashed - I think it adds character and personality to a space. The Scandinavians do this so well. Fill a beach house with lots of natural light, straw baskets, cane and rattan furniture and sisal flooring and you are bound to have a winning success!

Shades of Soft Blues & Aqua

Love these soft, pretty seaside tones in a palette of aqua, blue and seafoam. Eternally fresh - a perfect combination for decorating any beach house. Take the concept from home decor to a coastal inspired tablescape or a beach themed party. I used this chic coastal palette for my beachside wedding and reception, I have a wardrobe full of these colours and I decorated my house in these tones and I'm still not sick of it!

All Aboard

I love boats and I love being out on the water so tell me, how did I end up with a husband who gets seasick?! He's not a huge fan of our Wednesday night twilight Yacht racing but he goes along to keep me happy (and to shut me up)! As time goes on he's getting better and better at faring rough seas and bumpy waves and I think he almost even enjoys himself on a calm summer's evening with a gentle breeze blowing. I love the idea of one day sailing or motoring around the Whitsunday Islands in sunny Queensland. There's something very romantic about throwing down anchor in a secluded sandy cove on a deserted tropical island. I have visions of cooking up freshly caught fish and dining out under the stars whilst the boat bobs gently up and down on the waves.

I am loving this cute and cosy cabin interior.

Perfect Positano

This winter it would be nice to escape to somewhere sunny and warm like Positano or Amalfi on the Italian coast. I love the breathtaking scenery with their winding, cobble-stoned streets and gelati coloured buildings hanging to the cliff face. I can see myself in one of those colourful little restaurants covered in pink bougainvillea tucking into a bowl of steaming spaghetti marinara with a bottle of the local wine to wash it all down!

Bora Bora - Resort Wardrobe

Bora Bora Resort Wardrobe

 Bora Bora - Aqua

This time last year I was lazing on a sunlounge with a cocktail in hand at the Intercontinetal Bora Bora, Tahiti. This year I was wishing I was back there! It was a trip 2 years in the making or should I save saving - so there was plenty of time to plan for a wardrobe. Having started my career as a fashion designer I had great pleasure in planning it down to the last perfect detail. Everything was new, carefully co-ordinated and picked to match the tropical surroundings. Even my poor husband didn't escape without a polo or two matching the turquoise coloured water! He's a good sport and goes along with most of it as long as I stick to the rule of no 'couple co-ordinated' outfits in public! I had fun putting this together and reliving it all - so you'll have to humour me!

Bora Bora - Tropical Brights

There were bikinis, kaftans and sundresses in aqua, turquoise and white. There were jewelled slides for poolside lounging and rope wedges for resort beach bars. There was strappy, silk dresses and heels for cocktail hour and candlelit dining. I threw in a splash of coral and pink for a bit of fun and to break up the blues and aquas. The funny thing is I ended up spending most of my time in my bikinis and really needed only half the stuff I packed! Lots of things just got the one outing so they are sitting there patiently waiting for another tropical holiday!
