The Hamptons Blues

Relaxing at the Hamptons

What is your colour palette?

Allow one colour to be “the voice” in your palette - it sets the tone.

This colour creates unity and pulls together the competing colours in the fabrics, carpets, rugs or art.

Today's inspiration is all about shades of white, blue and beige.

Take your cue from nature and dress your interior in sandy creams, driftwood browns and neutrals,

and all shades of the ocean from aqua to pale blue, indigo and china blue.

Don’t be afraid to base your scheme on a neutral.  Touches of black can bring visual interest and drama.  Think natural linens in interesting textures teamed with smart charcoals or navy freshened with crisp white.

Once you have determined your colour palette this will set the mood of the room or house and helps to ensure a unified end result. Nature will be the main source of inspiration but also look at the things you love and have collected over time they will help you decide on your palette.

Colour is a tool you can use to balance a room and this can be introduced

by a floor rug, artwork or an upholstered chair or a cushion which draws the eye
and units the scheme.

Hi Melissah, I have just found your Blog and website and it is just what I have been looking for! Your beach house decorating guide was an fabulous read and I love this Hamptons Blue post. We have just bought a beach front apartment and are planning a full renovation. My plan is decorate in whites, blues and natural colours. We will use the apartment around 6 weeks of the year and the rest of the year rent to holiday makers. The apartment is coming together slowly but I have one decision that I hope you can help us with. The lounge suite - should we go with leather or fabric? If we weren't renting it, we would purchase a light coloured fabric lounge. Your thoughts? Sam.

I love the soft blues and white of this decor. It's so serene and peaceful, like nothing negative could happen in such a lovely environment.
